Stephen Curry returned for the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the Western Conference Playoffs and poured out 40 points, 17 of which came in over time.
After that performance, he was named as the MVP for the regular season, retaining the award from last season, but the outstanding part is that the guard got a unanimous vote.
All 131 people gave him the first place in the voting. He thus became the first player in NBA history to be accorded such an honour, which the likes of Michael Jordan, Koge Bryant and Magic Johnson did not get throughout their playing careers.
Curry has the most three-pointers in a regular season with 402, and scored the most points in NBA overtime history against the Blazers on Monday night.
He is now focused on leading the Warriors to retain the NBA title they won last year.
At the award presentation, Curry, 28, said it was an opportunity to look back and reflect on his career.
“This is an unbelievable honour and I want to thank everybody for being here to celebrate this with me.
“It has been a fun year in which we have accomplished a lot,” he said.
He thanked the people that helped him get to the esteemed position adding that the award gave him the opportunity to look back and reflect on his career.
“I look at the list of players that have been named MVP, legends, they all are. But to be the first player to receive a unanimous vote is something I don’t even know how to put into words.
“It is a huge honour, one that I will remember for the rest of my life,” he added.
Curry would be back on court on Wednesday in Game 5 against the Blazers, hoping to put the series to bed.
