Weeks after the release of The Oniba of Iba, Oba Goriola Oseni, by unknown gunmen in Lagos, residents of Iba community and its environs can still not sleep with their two eyes closed. The community in question, Victory estate (zone 2) Iba, has experienced security threats from alleged militants and hoodlums over the last couple of weeks. Residents woke up to sporadic shooting and heavy gunfire from Officers of the Nigerian Army and Police today. However, yesterday (07-09-16) at about 02:45 pm, residents were terrified to the incessant gun battle between security operatives and the hoodlums.
It is believed that these miscreants have sought a haven somewhere in the creeks around the estate, sailing out at will and terrorizing innocent individuals and their families. Some residents were seen carrying their belongings, leaving the now troubled zone with their families, while economic activities were put on hold as shop owners and commercial motorcyclists were nowhere to be found.
This once peaceful community has now become a shadow of itself, subjected to insecurity and violence. However, enough credit must be given to the security personnel on ground and the residents as well. They were helpful in providing necessary information to the Officers. We are using this opportunity to reach out to the state government to find a lasting solution to this issue as it involves the safety of lives, businesses and properties. Eko o ni baje o!!!!
