Is Technology A Menace Or Blessing To The Reading Culture In Nigeria's Educational Sector? - ETCSINES


This is the same thing like someone asking that has technology being a menace or a blessing in the 21st century? It is noteworthy to say that everything that has an advantage also has its disadvantage. Technology is a major part of our lives and its cut across the different sectors of the economy. This week we will be considering its impact in the educational sector. We are all aware that this impact can come in two forms, the negative aspect and also the positive aspect.

            Technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industries. It also refers to methods, system and devices which are the result of scientific knowledge be used for the practical purpose (Collins Dictionary).

According to Merriam Webster dictionary, it is the science of the application of knowledge to practical purposes. In view of the aforementioned definition, we can say that it is a tool that enhances quality living in any society. The question is if this important device has its original purpose to make the country a suitable place for invention, how come it has its disadvantage. This is a question we need to ask ourselves this week. It is time to examine the importance of technology in our educational system. We will be examining its advent and history of technology, the abuse of technology by students, Technology has a menace to the reading culture, technology has a blessing to the reading culture and so on.
