The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the abduction of a 52-year-old Romanian engineer, Mr. Christian Nedeclu, by suspected kidnappers Railway Village in Owa-Oyibo, Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.
A Nigerian, who works as a workshop supervisor to the construction company, Dextron Construction Company was kidnapped along with the expatriate.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim was abducted when gunmen suspected to kidnappers stormed the site of the project shooting sporadically before they whisked away the expatriate to unknown destination on Monday.
It was learnt that the hoodlums and security details attached to the company workers were engaged in a gun duel but that didn’t stop the bandits from succeeding in their operation.
Sources told our correspondent that gunmen contacted the company officials demanding an undisclosed ransom in foreign currency on Tuesday evening.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the abduction of the duo when contacted on Tuesday.
Kalu said the bandits struck about 5:52pm on Monday.
She, however, disclosed that operatives of the command were already closing-in on the kidnappers of the victims as she gave the assurance that the victims would be rescued unhurt.
She said, “Our men including local vigilante groups are combing the bushes and they are working in clues. I am very sure that very soon, we will rescue the victim and the get the kidnappers arrested.”
