1 Timothy 1:18-20
Outline
Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. 1 Timothy 1:19, KJV
Conscience is the part of the mind that values your actions and determines if it is right or wrong. A good conscience therefore, is that which retains its capacity to detect wrong motives and actions as well as condemns them. When a conscience is no longer sensitive to wrong motive or action, it is said to be dead. A man with dead conscience has the capacity to do evil at any degree and still feel good about it.
Furthermore, faith refers to a person’s trust in God, devotional life towards God, relationship with God and a life of consistent obedience to the Word of God. Now, faith and good conscience are twin brothers, the two sides of a coin. If you have one, you have the two. If you lose one, you have lost the other. Apostle Paul had this understanding and warned his protégé, Timothy, to consciously watch his life so he might not wreck his life in God. Let your faith work on your conscience and vice-versa so that you can maintain the two in order to fulfil your destiny in God.
