"Next time I get into a car I'll feel more alive than ever"

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope interviewed Fernando Alonso after his accident in the Australian Grand Prix.
Q. Are you ok?
A. Yes, yes. A bit of pain when I got out of the car, but I've gone through 24 hours with a certain amount of normality.
Q. Doesn't anything hurt?
A. My body hurts a bit, as if it's been in a giant washing machine, but I don't have any scars or swellings. I'll be on my bike in two or three days.

Q. Were you aware of what was happening?
A. Yes. You're aware of everything. I look at the wall at the back, I see that I'm going really fast and I say, "This is going to be a proper crash, lets hope I don't get hurt". When the car stops you don't have a very good idea where you are. I saw a hole to get out of because I was upside down and said, "I'm going to get out".
Q. Your only thought must have been: stop now!
A. Yes, stop now and that nothing hits your head. You huddle up a bit, you try to make yourself small so that you stop and there's no bang on the head.
Q. Don't you think about what might happen to you when you're driving?
A. You don't think about anything. When you're involved in a big accident, everything happens at high speed and you either learn to respect it or get scared: "Maybe this time I'll hurt myself". You don't think that something really serious might happen to you. It's just the respect you show the speed and the sport but, the next time that you climb into the car, you might enjoy it even more. You enjoy the driving again, as it makes you feel more alive than ever. Yes, it's a strange feeling to have.
