E-book And E-Library Vs Hardcopy And Library As A Menace To The Reading Culture – ETCSINES

As the world advances, men are trying to create ways to meet up with the standard introduce into their system. One of such ways is the introduction of E-books and E-library in the educational sectors. Prior to this, the school system was using medium knowns as “Hardcopy”; the only place in which these materials can be gotten is in the library.  In this write-up, we will try to explain the meaning of this concept, their importance and how they have serve as a menace to the reading culture.

A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical or digital access to material, and may be a physical building or room, or a virtual space, or both. In those days, libraries are always in a central location where both students and adults come together for one singular purpose, to read. The materials in this library are known as “Hardcopy”. Reading those days was very interesting because a lot of people were eager to acquire knowledge.
In the 21st century, things have changed, we now have this hardcopy books, turned into softcopy in which people from different walks of life can access in different location at any given time. They are not only available in softcopy which is known as E-book but there is a platform in which you can have it store up just as a physical library online. A better definition would help us in this light.

An electronic book is a book publication made available in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on the flat-panel display of computers or other electronic devices. While an E-library or a digital library, digital repository, or digital collection, is an online database of digital objects that can include text, still images, audio, video, or other digital media formats. Objects can consist of digitized content like print or photographs, as well as born-digital content like word processor files or social media posts. In addition to storing content, digital libraries provide means for organizing, searching, and retrieving the content contained in the collection. The question is how its serve as a menace to the reading culture.

First off, one of the ways in which the intervention of this technology has become a menace is the distraction it causes to some student. Many students get distracted while reading online due to the messages that pop up.
Secondly, the inabilities of students to be able to read it offline serve as a disadvantage to the reading habit of student. Many people believe that they cannot access it if they are not online. This is one of the difficultly experience.
In view of all this, we advise students to maximize the use of this technology and overlook the disadvantages that may crop up due to the deficiencies caused by man.
