An Accountant, Grace Wisdom, 35, who allegedly stole her employer’s N747,420, was, on Thursday, brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
She pleaded innocence of the offence, but the Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, insisted that the accused committed the offence between May 23, 2016 and March 21, 2017 at No. 41, Onitana St., Surulere.
Okoliko said the accused stole Grandex Pharmaceutical Company Ltd’s N747,420 being proceeds of sales.
The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The section provides that any clerk or servant who steals the property of his employer, is liable on conviction to seven years imprisonment.
Ruling on the woman’s bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mr A.A. Paul, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Paul said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the other surety must be a community leader or cleric.
In addition, he said the sureties should provide evidence of tax payments to the government.
The case was adjourned until April 5 for mention.
