Nigerian pilgrims pray over recession in Jerusalem

Nigerians in Jerusalem observing the 2016 pilgrimage have asked for God’s intervention in the economic recession facing the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Jemilade Longe, who is among the 300 pilgrims from the state, said the prayer was part of the arrangements planned for the exercise.
Longe, in a statement on Thursday, stated that the prayer became necessary considering the various challenges facing the country.
He said the pilgrims visited several sites, where Jesus Christ carried out his ministry, praying for peace and prosperity in Nigeria.
“Pilgrimage exercise gives one the opportunity to see all that has been written in the Bible and the experience instils in us a lot of confidence about biblical promises and revelations yet unfulfilled in the scriptures,” Longe added.
He said the pilgrimage experience was very significant for Lagos State in harnessing its tourism potential, which is a cardinal focus of the present administration in the state.
He said, “Our governor has done a lot to boost the tourism potential of the state and by coming here, it will give us an opportunity to learn more on how to improve and also appreciate the importance of tourism.”
One of the pilgrims, Reverend Ogunfolaji James, said the pilgrimage was important for Nigerians to unite and fight against the evil affecting the development in the country.
He said, “What I have seen here in Israel has further made it more imperative for me to pray fervently for our dear country. I saw mass farming activities even though they (Israelites) don’t have the right vegetation. These people produce what they eat right here in the desert. Our country is so blessed with natural and human resources yet we still depend on food imported from other countries.”
