Isaiah 41:17-20
Outline
“I will make rivers flow on barren heights and springs within the valleys...” Isaiah 41:18, NIV
In the life of every believer, there are always high and low times. In low times, it is like we are marching across a desert, no water, no shade, nothing green, just dust and heat.
We need to understand this experience of being in the wilderness, because God has a purpose for everything that may happen to a believer. Isaiah 41:17 describes the condition of a person in the wilderness with the phrase “their tongues fail for thirst.”
Jesus also in the Sermon on the Mount said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
So these conditions are not peculiar to this generation. They however, portray the exact condition of a heart that is in the wilderness.
In biblical symbolism, water always represents the Word of God and the ability for it to restore and rejuvenate.
Notice that to conclude that text in Matthew 5:6 Jesus said, “...they shall be filled.” One important thing we must keep in mind during the wilderness experience is that God has provision for thirsty souls.
Jesus Himself promises that we shall be satisfied. So, if you need the spiritual water that can heal, turn to the Word (the Bible) and drink to your satisfaction.
