A nation blessed with natural resources - coal, crude oil, limestone, marble, and the likes.
A nation whose land flowed with milk and honey,
But, tell me, where is the milk, or where does the honey lie now?
Should the son of a butcher even beg for meat or the daughter of a dressmaker cry for lack of clothing?
Isn't it seeming like all has been lost?
Is this how we received the baton?
Won't the phrase, "Giant of Africa" seem false to our children?
Aren't things falling apart?
North, South, East and West have all faced their directions.
Every man to his own business.
***
But,
in the midst of these, I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Let's put the rule of oneness to work
Nigeria is beyond 4°N - 14°N, 2°E - 15°E, it is you and I.
Whether it prospers or fails, it depends on us.
Whether it sky- scrapes or is been trampled upon, it depends on us.
Whether "Nigeria" is interchanged for "corruption" or "Honesty", it depends on us.
You and I determine the fate of this nation.
Look through the window and let the change I perceive transform your mindset.
Aren't we alive?, then we have hope.
Arise, let's rebuild the shattered walls of this nation.
Put in the sickle as I put the hoe to work, and
together, let's push this nation forward.
Happy Independence Nigeria.
May you reach your promise land.
