James 1:12-16
Outline
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial… he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12, NIV
In line with yesterday’s message, James shows us the blessedness of enduring suffering for the sake bf Christ in our text today. This had been alluded at by Christ Himself while addressing the crowd in the Beatitudes. He says, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you ... because of me” (Matthew 5:11). James re-echoed Christ when he said the crown of life awaits Christians who endure hardship (cf. Matthew 5:12). James, however, warns Christians against giving-in to temptation, which he says is a device the devil uses to deprive believers of their heavenly reward.
This is applicable to Christians today. As we endure trials because of our faith in Christ, if we do not faint, we have the crown of life awaiting us in heaven. Our perseverance is not in vain. It is making our faith strong and working out our heavenly reward. There are tempting situations everywhere; we should not allow any of it to draw us away from the glorious rewards that await us in heaven.
