Psalm 110
Outline
The LORD hath sworn and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. Psalm 110:4, KJV
The subject of this Psalm is the Priest-Kingship role of Jesus on earth. It is the revelation God gave to David about Jesus. Jesus referred to this Psalm when He asked the Jews: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?” (Matthew 22:43-45, KJV). This Priest-King is typified by Melchizedek who was a king and at the same time a priest.
The consecration of Jesus as the Priest-King by the Father shows the degree to which He loved us. As our Priest, He gives victory over sin and death and as our King He gives victory and dominion over our enemies. God did not lightly make this decision; He, on the contrary, firmly decided that Jesus will be our Priest-King. The enemies He will overcome are those who hate us; the kings and the nations He will execute judgment upon are those who loath righteousness and persecute the Church. Let us therefore rejoice and celebrate our Priest-King forever more.
