1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Outline
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24, NIV
It takes an athlete a high level of discipline and self- control to maintain a balanced mind and posture required of any game before he/she can win the race. Apostle Paul compares the Christian journey with athletic races. He enjoins the believers to run the race with the intention of receiving the prize. He emphasises discipline (self-control) as a prerequisite for running the race that can guarantee a prize, that is, eternal life.
Your daily Christian living is a race. If you will end the race to receive the prize for the Christian race, you must exercise highest restraint from entangling yourself with the activities that are contaminating and can abruptly take you off the track and eventually lead you into eternal suffering. Do not forget that there are distractions everywhere. Do not give in to anyone. Remember also that the devil, your greatest enemy is on the devouring mission. He intends to take you off the track with worldly pleasures so that you may miss the great reward. Do not allow him!
