Hebrews 7:15-17
Outline
One who has become a priest.., on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. Hebrews 7:16, NIV
In the Old Testament, a man can become the high priest only if he was a Jew and only if he came from the lineage of Levi. The priesthood was surrounded with law that was based on the externalities. First, he must be consecrated with the anointing oil and smeared with animal blood. The high priest must be clothed in special robe. The high priest only even had access to the most holy place once in a year. Above all, no high priest was permanent; death did not allow them to continue.
On the other hand, Christ, our Great High Priest did not operate under the law of externalities. He operated by the power of an endless, indestructible life (that cannot be terminated). Therefore, He is not plagued by the weaknesses and the limitations of the Old Testament priesthood. By the power of an endless life, He was sinless, He sacrificed His life for our own sin: He died: He arose on the third day and ascended to heaven to continue His priestly role on our behalf. By this power of an endless life, He can set you free from sin, Satan and sicknesses if you believe in Him.
