Hebrews 4:14-5:10
Outline
Seeing then that we have a great high priest …Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Hebrews 4:14, KJV
The Old Testament high priests were men selected among the people to stand between them and God. The best offering they could present to God was the blood of animals. The priesthood was plagued with great weakness such that a nigh priest must first sacrifice for himself before he could sacrifice for the people; their ministry was not permanent; they die and never come back. The sacrifices the high priests could make were temporary and so must be done time and again, it was as such inadequate to offer permanent solution to human greatest predicament - sin.
Contrarily, Jesus became our Great High Priest because: 1. He was sinless. 2. He understood our weaknesses 3. He offered His own blood on our behalf as sacrifice unto God. 4. His sacrifice was once and for all (permanent and eternal, able to save all human Souls in all generations). 5. He became our advocate in the presence of the Almighty God. Our response to such a great privilege is to forever remain Faithful and grateful to Him; and hold fast our profession in Him in any situation.
