Morning Devotion: JESUS CARRIES FORWARD THE FATHERS WILL

Saturday, October 15

Matthew 26:36-39

Outline
And he went ... and prayed, saying O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matthew 26:42, KJV
Jesus Christ is the perfect example in righteousness and godliness. After He had laboured teaching, preaching and working miracles about, He came to the last stage of His work. This was the stage of suffering and death on the cross. Emotionally, Jesus suffered the cruelest pain: the man who never committed a sin, suffered for the sin of the whole world. This was why He prayed wishing this great injustice could be averted. It was the time He needed the encouragement from His disciples, yet all of them were deeply asleep leaving Him to suffer the agony alone.

In His prayer, Jesus found that it was His Fathers will for Him to suffer the greatest injustice in the whole world. Jesus however, calmly accepted His Fathers will. Jesus’ attitude is very instructive here. It shows what it means to be a child of God. It means seeking and accepting the will of God whether it is pleasant or painful. Can you follow the example of Jesus in all things too without asking questions? This is how to follow God’s will.
