1 Timothy 1:12-17
Outline
And I thank Christ ... who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. 1 Timothy 1:12, KJV
A common adage says your attitude determines your altitude. If you are wondering why Apostle Paul achieved such greatness in leadership in the early Church, one secret was his grateful attitude. Despite all the marvellous things God did through his hand, he never forgot his background. He never forgot that he was a dreaded persecutor of Christ and His Church and that he used to blaspheme the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, in spite of all, God showed him mercy.
Mercy is a kindness or help given to a person who is supposed to be treated harshly, a person who does not deserve it at all. Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus is not possible unless God shows mercy. God has the prerogative to show mercy to any man He chooses (Romans 9:15). No one can influence God or force Him to show mercy. Mercy is a product of God’s sovereignty. How much of mercy have you enjoyed or are you enjoying from God? You ought to show gratitude to your Maker whose mercy precipitates the gift of salvation in your life.
