2 Timothy 2:1-7
Outline
Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3, KJV
Anyone who chooses to follow Jesus had made himself/herself an enemy of the devil. There is no exclusive middle. The devil is the father of lies, the source of all godlessness; he actively opposes righteousness and everyone who obeys the Lord Jesus Christ. Hence, every Christian must appropriate the power of God in order to secure daily victory over the devil. Victory comes not through human ability, but through the grace of God. This is why Paul instructed Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. With God’s grace, victory is certain every day.
The Christian life is warfare, so you need to see yourself as a soldier of Christ. Like the soldiers of this world, you must expect to go through difficult situations in life and must not quit until the battle is over. A good soldier does not entangle himself with civilian affairs. As a good soldier of Jesus Christ, you ought to say NO to the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, the pride of life. Endure opposition from men and daily wait for the command of the Master before embarking on any mission.
