Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Saturday said his administration is targeting a monthly revenue of over N10 billion.
Ganduje spoke on the sidelines of a three-day retreat for the officials and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He said, “The state government was netting between N500m and N600m monthly when we came in 2015.
“However, the monthly revenue generation has now hit over N3bn and we are not satisfied.”
Ganduje further said that the state legislature was now reviewing the various revenue laws to bolster its generation.
He said that the state government would not take any measures that will aggravate the suffering of the people.
He said, “The people of the state are now willingly paying their taxes as they have seen what we are doing with their money.
“We are using internally generated revenue to execute specific capital projects.
“We are even erecting signposts indicating that such projects were executed with IGR.”
The governor promised to continue to run the affairs of the state honestly, transparently and openly.
Ganduje pledged that the scarce revenue accruing to the state would continue to be spent judiciously with the fear of God.
The governor, however, acknowledged that one of the most formidable challenges to the state government now was tallying the huge demands for social services with scarce resources.
