The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation on Thursday warned those impersonating the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, to desist from such practice.
It said in a statement that already, one Izuagie Mohamed who had been defrauding the public disguising as the AGF had been arrested.
The statement reads in part, “It has come to the knowledge of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation that some unscrupulous elements have created social media accounts and parading themselves in the platforms as the Accountant-General of the Federation.
“By their acts, they are and may be defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. The OAGF has reported the nefarious activities of the scammers to the Department of State Services.
“It is gratifying to note that the action has started yielding results, as one Izuagie Mohammed, one of the scammers has been arrested by security operatives in Benin City, Edo State on August 24th, 2016, for impersonating the AGF.”
Mohammed according to the statement was using a Facebook account where he posed as the AGF.
The statement said the suspect had already defrauded some members of the public, by promising to help them facilitate access to the Central Bank Empowerment Loans, among other dubious claims.
“The general public is hereby notified that the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, as a thorough-breed professional, does not transact businesses on Facebook or any other social media platform nor facilitates access to loans for anyone.
“The office hereby advises the general public to be wary of the activities of fraudsters, as they go about their businesses, especially, while using the social media,” the statement concluded.
