It could be the hottest challenge of this summer! A pepper-eating contest was held in Lijiang, a tourist hotspot in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Competitors were apparently not afraid to numb their tongues and set their palates on fire as they ate their way through the fierce preliminary contest, all the way to the final round.
They had two minutes to eat as many chillies as they can while sitting in giant urns filled with peppers. The championship went to a man surnamed Suo who stomached 47 pieces. Suo seems to have had an advantage over his rivals, as he came from Chengdu, the city known as“the hometown of spicy food.”
