From the goverment of ekiti state website this afternoon as at 3:06pm the school released an official statement about the protest of the student and its reason as earlier stated but now we have news from ekiti state management saying
Ekiti State governor, Dr Ayodele Fayose has directed the Ekiti State University management to reverse some actions taken in respect of some fees and students registration deadline following a peaceful protest staged by the students early Thursday.
While addressing the protesting students, the governor noted that the actions of the school may not be totally wrong but for the current economic situation of most parents, the deadline for registration will be extended while late registration fees will be reversed.
The governor also promised to have an audience with operators of campus commercial buses to find a lasting solution to the argument being generated between students and drivers on the number of passengers per tour following complaints of overloading by the students.
He therefore charged the students to shun every act that could result in the closure of the school, saying it will be of no benefits to the students who may have their graduation unnecessarily delayed. He also advised them to always pay electricity bills to allow the Benin Electricity Distribution Company supply power regularly, promising to discuss with BEDC on the plight of the students on incessant power supply.
Earlier, a representative of the protesting students had called on the governor to intervene on the registration deadline and hike in some departmental fees as well as the imbroglio between students on campus and commercial bus drivers, saying they have great confidence in the governor as a lover of students.
The students who had earlier blocked some roads returned to their campus amidst jubilation following the intervention of the governor, bringing the protest to an end
