Boris Johnson pulls out of race for new British Prime Minister

Former mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has dropped out of the race for the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party and Prime Minister. Mr. Johnson, a former schoolmate of estranged prime minister, David Cameron, was thought to be the favourite to step into the shoes of left behind by the PM who resigned last week after the country voted to leave the European Union in a referendum.

Mr. Johnson spectacularly pulled out after his former ally and pro-leave campaigner, Michael Gove, sabotaged his chances by unexpectedly announcing that he was going to run in the race himself.
Boris’ former campaign manager, Nick Boles, had previously jumped ship to join Mr. Gove’s team.
The announcement of Mr. Gove, who is the Justice Secretary, blew the race open, the UK Sun newspaper said.
In a speech on Thursday, which was expected to announce the launch of his campaign for the party’s leadership, Mr. Johnson said he could not provide the leadership to keep the party united.
Mr. Johnson waited to the end of his speech which advocated for the need for Britain to “think globally again” in the wake of the decision to quit the EU, before announcing to the packed room, he was not fit to lead the country into the new horizon, he had challenged his countrymen to look into.
“I must tell you, my friends, you who have waited faithfully for the punchline of this speech, that having consulted colleagues, and in view of the circumstances in Parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me,” he said.
“My role will be to give every possible support to the next Conservative administration, make sure we properly fulfil the mandate of the people that was delivered at the referendum and to champion the agenda I believe in.”
The decision of Mr. Johnson to pull out of the race has left, Home Secretary, Theresa May ,as the new favourite to become the next PM of the Britain.
