Nigeria coach Samson Siasia
Former Holland-based midfielder, Sani Kaita, has urged the national Under-23 coach, Samson Siasia, to work on his attack ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The Under-23 team scored five goals and conceded eight goals in the just-concluded Suwon Invitational Tournament in South Korea, where they finished third.
“There are good players in that team that I know and I believe that the tournament in Korea should not be used to judge them for now,” he said.Kaita, who was a member of the Beijing 2008 Olympics silver-winning team, told our correspondent that Siasia should focus more on the attack, adding that the team’s defence would mature if the attackers could score goals.
“But I believe the coach should work more on the strikers because they are very wasteful in front of goal. From the reports of the tournament in South Korea, the strikers had a lot of chances to score but they didn’t take them.
“If a team can score from the chances they get, winning a match will be easier. I believe when the strikers are not scoring, the defenders will have more work to do. Nigeria need to work hard because their group is not going to be easy.
“So if more strikers can be called in, then the coach should work on that.”
