Federal allocation not enough to pay salaries – Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said on Sunday that the federal allocation accruable to Kano State was insufficient to pay the salaries of civil servants in the state. Ganduje, who spoke during an event to commemorate his first year in office, said his administration grappled with the issue of security when it was inaugurated.
“What the Kano State government received last month from the Federal Government dropped from N5bn to N2.6bn, which is not enough to pay salaries,” the governor said. He also said that his administration grappled with dwindling revenue but maintained that it had done everything within its power to stabilise the state’s economy. The governor said that he was determined to complete all inherited projects as well as initiate new ones. He said the government had to adopt stringent economic measures in order for the state to remain afloat. According the governor, the stringent measures resulted in the reduction of political appointees’ salaries, including his own and that of his deputy by 50 per cent.
