The troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 455 captives of the Boko Haram Sect in Borno State. The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Saturday that the troops of the 3 Battalion rescued the hostages and also killed 17 of the insurgents during the operation at Wulge and Walamari.
Usman said the troops who destroyed 12 of the camps of the insurgents also recovered five motorcycles, eight bicycles, one AK 47 rifle and a Dane gun from the insurgents.He said the rescued captives had been taken to the camp of the internally displaced persons at Gamboru.
The Acting Army Spokesman said the troops carried out the raid when they arrested a Boko Haram spy near the headquarters of their Battalion at Gamboru Ngala, who led them to the insurgents’ hideout.
He stated also that the troops of the 121 Battalion repelled a Boko Haram’s attempt on them at their formation at Pulka, Borno state.
According to Usman, the troops killed seven and injured several of the insurgents who launched the attack from the Sambisa Forest.
He said that the troops also ‘recovered 4 AK-47 rifles, 3 AK-47 rifle magazine and 92 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) belt ammunition’ from the Boko Haram.
Usman added that the troops of 103 Battalion ambushed some Boko Haram terrorists at Mairimri and killed an unspecified number of them.
He said further that the troops also recovered 15 bicycles and foodstuffs from the terrorists during the operation.
