World's dirtiest player sent off on managerial debut

Gerardo Bedoya was sent off a world-record 46 times during his playing days and marked his first foray into the first-team dugout with a dismissal after just 21 minutes

Gerardo Bedoya holds the world record for most red cards received by any player and celebrated the start of his managerial career in the only way he knows how.

The Colombian, a versatile defender who could play in defence and midfield, was sent off 45 times during a playing career spent mostly in South America before coaching the Independiete Santa Fe youth team.

Being afforded a first-team opportunity, Bedoya lined up alongside new Santa Fe manager Alexis Garcia and assistants Carlos Valencia and Javier Arango as the club took on Junior FC.

Sante Fe took the lead in the seventh minute, only for Vladimir Hernandez to equalise shortly afterwards and Bedoya wasn't having any of it despite calls to calm down, with assistant referee Nicolas Rodriguez his target.

After everyone had started focusing back on the game, Bedoya reportedly berated the referee and assistant referee for 10 minutes until he was ordered to the stands with just 21 minutes on the clock.

Bedoya was not just any old thug though, winning the Copa America with Colombia in 2001 and part of the Racing side to win the Argentina Premier League for the first time in 35 years in the same year.
