Gunmen kidnap Delta Sports Commission boss

The Director General of Delta State Sports Commission, Victor Onogagamue, has been kidnapped, according to officials of the commission.
Onogagamue was at the Warri City Stadium last Sunday to cheer Warri Wolves in their premier league game against visiting Lobi Stars. It ended 0-0.

It was learnt that at the end of the match, Onogagamue left Warri for his hometown, Okpara, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
An official of the Sports Commission who spoke on condition of anonymity yesterday said that his relatives became apprehensive when Onogagamue failed to show up in his residence.
“We have been waiting for him since then,” the official said. “But on Tuesday, the kidnappers used his (Onogagamue’s) mobile phone to call the chairman of the Sports Commission, Tony Okowa, to say that our DG was in their custody. The kidnappers demanded N50m for his release,” the official said. Efforts to speak with the Sports Commission boss (Tony Okowa) yesterday were unsuccessful, as he was said to be holding series of meetings with relevant agencies concerning Onogagamue’s abduction.
The DSSC official described Onogagamue as an easy going man who has contributed so much to youths empowerment over the years. He appealed to his abductors to release him in the interest of sports in Delta State.
Onogagamue has been part of the progress made by Delta sports in the National Sports Festival, which the state won five times out of seven editions since Bauchi 2000.
